Gunnison Desert

As temperatures rise I will revisit a piece I made following an artist residency in Paonia Colorado. I am starting to blog my artwork again after two years away due to hacker interference.

Gunnison Desert is a ceramic print. From a series of about 20 single exposure photographs I take while spinning my body on an axis, I merge the shots into a continuous panorama using a filter from Adobe Photoshop. Another filter takes the strip and joins the ends together to create a circular 360 degree panorama. This piece then is a radial perspective of where I stood. I have eliminated my standing area and some of the sky.

I complete the work using screen print, hand coloring, ceramic materials and firing. More later in future posts.

Ice Fishing

I am showing a photograph of a panorama of the frozen pond near our house in sympathy for folks affected by the frigid conditions across the country today. The holes in the ice were cut by an ice fisherman. Subsequent warm temperatures and rain created the jagged legs. Now the cracks and holes are frozen rock solid.

Boot Cove

Boot Cove

Boot Cove is a new work I am just finishing. It is a circular ceramic print that has the “stoned “ look of the Maine coast.

I gave myself a self funded residency in Lubec, Maine this past summer to find and photograph landscapes for panoramas.  Walking on Maine Coast Heritage Trust Boot Head trail alongside the Atlantic Ocean, I was about to return to my car, exhausted and short of a destination I had mapped out when.  Two hikers I met said I HAD to visit Boot Cove.
